WELCOME FELLOW WRITERS. YOUR  TASK IS TO WRITE A 1500 TO 3000 WORD SHORT STORY. EACH PAGE USUALLY CONTAINS 352 WORDS. How many pages is this?  THAT WOULD BE A THREE TO FIVE PAGE TYPED STORY.  Double Space!!

REQUIREMENTS

  • Begin by understanding the overview of short story plot structure and author techniques . Follow the links to understand the elements and the components of each element so that you will be able to write a story that is interesting enough to hold the reader's attention.

  • READ  short stories. Ask your teacher for some. Follow the same pattern as the exercises we have done in class. Visualize your characters and then show them doing things. Ask yourself, what does he/she look like as they do this?

  • This page is an overview of the six elements Elements of a Short story that make up a story. I have included a print out for study purposes.

  • YOU should DO A FIRST DRAFT- either using a computer or handwritten. [mark as draft at the top] Follow the writing process.

  • As well check this out.

  • You always double space a story!

  • YOU SHOW your teacher this rough COPY AND SHE WILL LOOK IT OVER.

  • You must have conversation in your story.

  • YOU MUST HAVE FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE IN THIS STORY.

  • YOU SHOULD DEVELOP Character profiles: MAIN CHARACTERS so that readers can close their eyes and see them.

  • YOU must HAVE SOME CONFLICT IN THE STORY TO MAKE IT INTERESTING.

  • You must follow the plot characteristics and show the story events and how they unravel.

  • Limit the killing and gore in your story so that it isn't the controlling factor and overpower your characters and theme.

  • Ghost Stories and Science Fiction are acceptable genres.

  • I will use this rubric to evaluate your story.
